These committees, which are composed of up to forty
experts (including journalists, musicians, producers, record
company reps, etc.), make determinations in their specific
fields of recording (classical, Latin, country, jazz, gospel,
etc.). A few "pre-screening" committees also meet in Los
Angeles and New York to review all entries in their field
and to refer inappropriate entries to the national meeting.
The committees then assemble in Los Angeles for the full-
scale national screening meeting, which runs for two days
in late October and is co-chaired by Eddie Lambert and Bill
Traut. Among the committees on hand is the Core Committee,
which settles disagreements between committees and handles
areas that have considerable crossover (such as pop, R&B,
rock, alternative and world music). This Core Committee
consists of as many as 50 representatives, who are later joined
by many of the other committee members after their initial
committee work is completed.
